WATERWAY TRANSPORT CONTROL POST OPENS AT LAKE BUIR
A Waterway Transport Control Post has been established and officially opened on the shore of Lake Buir in Dornod Province, with investment from the Mongolia Maritime Administration.
The opening ceremony was attended by M. Ulzii, Director-General of the Mongolia Maritime Administration; H. Khurel-Erdene, Head of the Dornod Provincial Department of Environment; representatives of the Lake Buir Protected Area Administration; and local residents.
The Control Post was established to strengthen waterway transport safety, monitoring and regulatory oversight, particularly in response to the increasing use of non-standard boats and inflatable watercraft and the associated risk of water-related accidents.
As part of the development, a floating dock for four boats, perimeter fencing, and three prefabricated buildings with a combined area of 54 m² were installed for office, rest and storage purposes. Necessary site improvement and landscaping works were also completed.
The new facility will enable maritime inspectors to operate regularly during the summer season and conduct registration, technical inspections and diagnostics of waterway transport vessels on site. It will also provide guidance and information to local residents and waterway transport operators.
The Control Post is expected to contribute to improving the safety of residents and visitors to Lake Buir and strengthening the monitoring and regulation of waterway transport activities in the area.
